The Order
of the White Eagle
on the Star was replaced with four laurel branches covered with green enamel.
Each Holder of the Order of the White Eagle was required to pay a one-time fee for charity in the amount of 300 rubles (additional 150 rubles were to be paid, if the swords were awarded).
First awardings with the Order of the White Eagle are dated by 1831, the time of the Polish Campaign. The two most prominent persons, receiving the Order for the operation, were Cavalry Generals I.O.Vitte and P.P.Palen.
The Crimea War of 1853 - 1855 named more Holders of the Order of the White Eagle: Lieutenant General P.P.Liprandi; Lieutenant General A.E.Bukhmeyer, awarded for construction of a log bridge over Severnya Bay under incessant enemy fire, which let the Sevastopol Garrison reach the Northern bank; and some other Army Commanders. The Order of the White Eagle, awarded for the elaborate defense of Sevastopol, was the last decoration of the legendary Admiral P.S.Nakhimov, who had taken over the Sevastopol Garrison after the death of V.A.Kornilov.
Among those awarded for heroics in the Russian-Turkish War of 1877 - 1878, are the names of Infantry General A.S.Adler and Cavalry Generals A.I.Arnoldi, M.N.Dokhturov and K.N.Manzei. All of them received Orders decorated with swords.
OnJanuary 1,1901, the Order of the White Eagle was awarded to Admiral E.I.Alexeyev for his China Campaign. The Russian-Japanese War of 1904 - 1905 brought seven more awardings of the Order of the White Eagle with swords and four awardings of the Order without swords. Among others, Orders with swords were bestowed to Engineer General N.F.Alexandrov, Infantry General L.M.Dembovsky and Artillery General V.N.Nikitin.
OnJanuary 10,1915, the Order of the White Eagle was awarded to Cavalry General A.A.Brusilov.
